What is Iisakki Village?
7-8 years ago owners of the Ruka Safaris Ltd Lilli and Jussi Karjalainen from Kuusamo started to think how they could expand and a same time add something special to their company’s supply. After hard thinking they decide that they should offer something really local for travellers. They started to build old stylish farm from Kuusamo. The village has got a ”face” and ideal role model from old Rajala farm in Paanajärvi. Paanajärvi area used to belong to Finland but after wars we lost the area to Russia. Many families in Kuusamo and northeast parts of Finland has their pedigree in Paanajärvi area.
At present in Rukajärvi, Ruka Safaris is in the process of building the Iisakki village, which is based on a copy from the old village of Paanajärvi. In that whole area of Paanajärvi there were altogether some 32 buildings, and Ruka Safaris intends to build all of these buildings in Rukajärvi, which is only some 10 minutes drive from Ruka. At the moment there are 14 buildings ready in this village.
The future Iisakki village area will serve as a tourist attraction, and the area will also have restaurants and accommodation. Already completed are the buildings of the private restaurant Iisaki house, the lakeside sauna with showers and changing room, the cosy wedding cabin, the boutique of `Father Christmas´ , the Country barn and two accommodation buildings: Papin talo and Alina’s House.
Iisakin Talo, main building of the village, serves our customers as a restaurant and cosy meeting place. There are seats for 50 persons to dine in Iisakki’s House. You may also meet Santa Claus himself, his elves and reindeers in Iisakki Village.
Activities in Iisakki Village
Almost all our programmes happen in the Iisakki Village area. On the winter time you can drive with the husky dogs or reindeer, walk with the snowshoes in the snowy forest and ice covered lakes. You can start or end your snowmobile trip to Iisakki Village area. On summer time you can do canoeing at the lake Rukajärvi, start mountain bike trip from the village, drive with the offroad cars... In spite of the time of the year you can have teambuilding programmes and silence programmes in this village.
Behind Iisakki’s House, in the shore of lake Rukajärvi is located Iisakki’s sauna. This traditional wood-heated sauna and modern shower room will round up your lovely and adventurous day. Even 20 people can bath in the sauna at the same time.
After the activities you can have delicious dinner in Iisakki’s House or in the big underground restaurant: Kontioluola. Kontioluola serves our customers also as a meeting place.
The best way to experience all in Iisakki Village is to accommodate in one of our cabins: Papin talo, Alina’s House, Luppolinna, Villa Golf Ruka or in winter time in igloos.
